[resolved] NGG Database Won't Upgrade (5 posts)

After the upgrade to 1.8.1, I got the following message:

"The script detect that you upgrade from a older version. Your database tables for NextGEN Gallery is out-of-date, and must be upgraded before you can continue. If you would like to downgrade later, please make first a complete backup of your database and the images."

The message came with this link:
    http://xxxxxxx.xxx/wp-admin/admin.php?page=nextgen-gallery&upgrade=now

When I click the link, to "Start Upgrade Now" nothing happens. And I can do nothing with NGG; all admin functions are locked until, presumably I upgrade the database.

Currently, NGG itself is working. I have only one gallery on this site, so I could burn NNG and start from scratch, but thought this might be a bug issue. Also, I was planning to deploy on a second site with a fair amount of content. Hesitant to do the work and then get jammed like this.

    Cordially,
    Dean Adams

Resolved. I downgraded to 1.7.4. I then did the automatic upgrade and this seems to have resolved the problem.

This unfortunately deleted all my images, but as noted above, there were only a handful, so reloading won't be a problem.

I still see this as red flag. I noted another user in a different forum resolved the issue the same way. For the record, the php script failed in FF 4.x, Chrome (current release), and IE8.

I hope this won't be the case on my other site, with hundreds of photos.

Where do you download the 1.7.4 version?

Alex Rabe keeps the older versions here:

I uninstalled (which will delete all your galleries and photos) and then installed the 1.7.4 version, and immediately auto-upgraded to 1.8.1. It then worked. I suppose you could use wp-backup and make sure you included the nextgen tables, and after the upgrade, try re-installing. I have no idea if that would work to restore your photos or not. So if you have a lot of photos/galleries, make a complete backup before you uninstall.
