hi thanks for the reply. I've checked options but i did not see any option to enable plugin slideshow only settings. do i need to change permission of any specific file to put slideshow to work?

I'm having the same problem. Even when I enter the correct path into the "Path to the Imagerotator" setting, the option just goes away and doesn't stick.

Me too! Imagerotator is in correct path and identified and yet all I get is the "spinning star" - slideshow won't load, though single pics can still be displayed by clicking on that option. I need to reload my old NextGen version until we can sort this out!

Same problem here. I'm using WordPress 2.8.5, can't upgrade to 2.9.1 because then a few important plugins don't work anymore. I upgraded Nexgen-Gallery to the latest version and now the slideshow-widget only shows the 'spinning star' as mentioned above.

Is there a way to downgrade Nextgen Gallery?

Please help, the slideshow was a nice extra on my website.

    Kind regards,
    André.

    Hi Alex,
i've placed the slideshow widget on the left sidebar:

    http://www.stonehengefestival.nl

You can see there's only the 'spinning star'.

Thanx for your time and help. :-)
    Kind regards,
    André.

after upgrading to the latest version of wordpress, the galleries stop working.
When clicking on a'n image, you just sea the enlarged images, not a gallery anymore

    Any help would be great!

i think the problem is caused by THICKBOX, but i still don't know what to do about it.

when i use SHUTTER, it works fine.
Although Shutter blows-up the images that big, that the navigation is falling of the page.
And the navigation of Thickbox is more suitable that Shutter, but oke.

So if anyone has een solution for the Shutter-size problem, then i'm happy as well.

    Bonjour,
I think that I have the same problem (like I use WordPress for the first time, I'm not sure).
Here my example: http://www.bao-bab.eu/wordpress/?cat=3&lang=fr (first steps of construction).
The error message say that I should have a flash player (ok, I do have one) and that my browser should accept Javascript (ok, it does).
    Thanks!

    @alexrabe:
I've put the slideshow-widget offline because it looks stupid when it's not working. If you want me to put it up again, just let me know.

    Kind regards,
    André

Sorry, I found my answer in an older FAQ-page:
    http://alexrabe.de/wordpress-plugins/nextgen-gallery/faq/
The plugin did not work because the code <?php wp_head(); ?> was missing between the head-Tags of my index document.

    Hello Alex,

I've been patiently waiting for a fix here - I was hoping someone might have figured out the bug that keeps slideshows from showing after the upgrade to WP 2.9.1 I've downgraded to an older version of NextGen to keep it working but I'd like to stay current with your updates.

This seems like a fairly significant issue as the slideshows are such a popular component of this plugin.

Can we expect a fix to this anytime soon? Is it on anyone's radar?

Thanks - I know you have time demands as this is not your full-time gig.

spinning loading icon only. Couldn't get slideshow to load before upgrading actually, nor since - image rotator path is good, thickbox/shutter make no difference. Have tried a bunch of other slide show plugins, (though none seem to size images proportionally.... aaargh!) Working on this site.

noted that with the Flashviewer settings - the pcviewer (simpleviewer) shows the slideshow block with "gallery xml not found", yet autoviewer does show the slideshow (but doesn't open image on click)(here).

Also tried varying the tags [gallery=1] and [nggallery id=1] - both do show thumbnails but no slideshow. (nor using [slideshow=1 or variations]

nextgen smooth gallery does works really quite nicely(here)but doesn't resize images to fit.

also tried placing imagerotator.swf in plugins folder and in uploads folder and resetting path, but that didn't help either - what else to try!??

bingo baby - uploaded another copy of imagerotator.swf to /wp-content/plugins/nextgen-gallery/imagerotator.swf , instead of the uploads folder, then reset the path again in control panel - and now suddenly it's working! (using tag [gallery=2] in post)

Eureka for me... It's been like 5 hours since I've been trying to find a solution for this problème... I too was having the loading icon, with no images...

    - Tried putting imagerotator.swf everywhere
    - Tried CHMOD imagerotator.php
    - Tried mangling with PHP code
    - Tried finding answers on forums and FAQ and all...

I did notice that the XML wasn't created with the images inside it... what to do with that, I don't have a f'n clue.

So finally, out of desperation, I've decided to use the reset thingy.
Searched for the swf again, and now for unknown reasons, it now works!!

I really really was having a hard time, and I really don't understand AT ALL what was going on... It might work, but I would like to have an explanation of what was wrong.

I was having most of the same problems everyone above was talking about, but i eventually got it working. here are a couple of things i did.

    1. I downloaded the older version of the imagerotator.swf that doe not contain the JW logo (not sure if this has anything to do with it) at http://www.travelsheep.com/jw-image-rotator-without-watermark-branding/
    2. Then i copied it to both the main nextGen plugin folder, and the uploads folde per discussion from http://www.kimwoodbridge.com/using-wordpress-custom-fields-to-display-nextgen-gallery-slideshows-conditionally/
    3. then on the dashboard under NextGen Gallery/options/slideshow, I used the search now button which previously was not working (had to put the address in my self before)
    4. Then i used this short code [slideshow id=x w=x h=x]

Once i did all of these things it magically started working again

    Hope this helps

OK, just got the bugger working again. All the settings in the NextGen options panel had been lost as I moved my site from a testing server to a live server.

I just filled in all the blanks on every tab in the options panel, and she came good.

    Good luck!

I had the same problem in one of my wordpress sites, the slideshow not working due to the "path to the Imagerotator (URL):" window didnt accepted the location I enter. My particular problem was every time I tried to use the search now buton or type it manually the system kept telling me there was no imagerotator.swf file in the directory.

Here are the steps I followed to fix the problem:

The first thing I did was to make 2 new fresh installations (very easy via simplescripts in the cpanel) to check if they worked. They worked fine. Of course I used the same wp verion as in my current website (3.0)

Since it worked I figured out it was a conflict with some plugin or with the theme (by the way my current site runs atahualpa 3.5.1 theme but the fresh instalation tests were with the default theme which is Twenty Ten 1.0)

Then I deactivated all plugins and activated the dafult wp theme.

Next I deleted nextgen plugin installation (I deactivated and then I deleted from the wp plugins manager)

I installed again the nextgen gallery and placed the imagerotatator.swf file into the wp-content/uploads directory

I went to nextgen-->options-->slideswow and the first thin I did was to press the "search now" button for the "path to the image rotator" window and it worked fine, the system recognized the imagerotator.swf file. Problem solved.

Then I re-activated the theme and the plugins. One by one and testing (refreshing) the site every time. everithing was ok.

    Done.

I really dont know were was the problem, I suppose one of the installed plugins or theme kept the nextgen slideshow serach now button from finding the file. The important thing is now it is working fine.

I hope this could help someone to solve their problem. I want to apoligize I my gramar is not good, I dont speak english well so I hope the instructions are clear.

    Best regards,
    Luciano.

It sounds like the rotator is displaying fine, so check the path information to the images.

I would re-upload WordPress files AND Nextgen plugin and start over. Could be the simplest fix.

Java slideshow not working. Everything else does (jw-image and gallery). But jw-image doesn't keep pictures in their proper ratios.

    WordPress 3.0.3
    with
    NextGen 1.7.2

Edit: Nevermind, got the ratio thing solved in settings. But would love to get the Java slideshow working.
