• I have been using NextGen for approximately 3 years and found it useful and intuitive to use

I loaded version 2 on when released and quickly ditched it, as it was inoperable. Having waited a while for problems to be ironed out, I today loaded on 2.0.30 and what can I say, it is difficult to use, hard to understand and nothing you do displays the images in the sizes chosen, so have gone back to 1.9.13, which is where I will remain until I have found a useful alternative

My message to Photcrati is, why mess something up that works adequately, some users are not experts and should not be left out of the equation, when amending software

NextGen used to be extremely user friendly, which is why I chose it, I am afraid that is no longer the case

  • Sasnick – if you haven’t noticed it yet there is a plugin called NextCellent Gallery that is a legacy version of NextGen Gallery 1.9.13. I was so happy when I found it. It solved all my issues.

Thanks surocharge, but having read the open letter and being repeatedly informed how good the tool was (then why change it!) and ultimately it’s our fault if it doesn’t work, I am now actively looking for an alternative plugin

Photocrati do not appear interested in the likes of us (who are not computer nerds!)

As an aside, I am well aware the plugin was free, but had it continued to work, then I was considering purchasing the PRO version, so at least I am saving some money now

Yesterday evening I created a test site with exactly the same plugins as the site that ended up inoperable when updating NextGen to 2.0.30, including adding the latest NextGen and it worked perfectly, so none of the other plugins were to blame

My conclusion is, that NextGen has been built for new users and that the coding has not taken existing legacy users into account

I have four sites that use NextGen 1.9.13 and that is definitely as far as I will go, imo version 2 is of no use on existing sites

Wrong conclusion, I’m an old user (2 or 3 years), I have 2.0.30 with legacy shortcode and all is working well. There’s some options to change, but isn’t true that new Nextgen is good only for new users.

My conclusion is not wrong, it does not work with my legacy galleries, so far as I am concerned, it is unusable in its current state

Maybe, you have time on your hands to play around and sort things out, I do not, so as far as my requirements are concerned, NextGen is now a no-go area

@sasnick – Have you submitted Bug Reports (http://www.nextgen-gallery.com/report-bug/) for the issues you are seeing? Especially for those issues you are seeing across multiple sites with the exact same setup.

Reproducible issues are very important for us to resolve.

Thank you for your response, but I will not be submitting a bug report, as I do not wish to waste my time on buggy software

For my organisation, NextGen is now of no use to us, just like Microsoft when it delivered Vista to an unsuspecting audience, we ditched it ,searched and found something more stable and reliable

So your topic from the start was for wasting other people’s time, not for trying to solve your problem, but just to tell that you are going to use another plugin?

For what it’s worth, my reply was in response to Photocrati, so what that has to do with you, God only knows
