   Could you help me understand how to use the shortcode to display a nggallery inside my bbpress (not buddypress) forum?

   When I use the shortcode I only see the shortcode itself displayed vs. and image gallery.

   I activated permalinks in the nextgen gallery options list and didn't know how to proceed from there (it gives gallery slug name of nggallery and instructing that I need to update my permalinks one time). I didn't know what to do there.
