next_posts and previous_posts changed behavior in (8 posts)

I used next_posts and previous_posts as a means of navigating back and forward through time in 1.0, where I seem to remember them working fine no matter where you were.
But now they only work when viewing single posts, whereas I also used them to go back a week at a time from my frontpage. (they are the 'older posts' and 'newer posts buttons on my site).
    Was this intentional?

I'm also curious as to how to get these functions working. Could one of the devs give a heads up?
    TIA

I was just wondering myself michael. I'd love for people to be able to look at the previous seven. Has anyone tried the previous_post('%','text','yes') suggestion yet?
I guess it's time to wade into template-functions

It should - I have the one above and a plugin running on my page with 5 posts paged, you can check it out.
