Newsletter plugins advice, please! (8 posts)

I may be asking for the impossible here, but has anyone use a newsletter plugin that will:

    - ask subscribers to confirm their subscription before receiving emails
    - allow me to control the subscribers list from within WordPress (and allow me to export it, if necessary)
    - allows me to build HTML templates (which I can base around my existing site design)
    - send multi-part emails, so that I can include a text-only equivalent
    - allow me to compose an email as if I were writing a post (so I can include media library images, for example)

    - NOT insist that I can only send the most recent blog post/s (or at the very least, allow me to restrict it to one category into which I can put my newsletter posts)

MailPress and the g-lock plugins come close, but as far as I can tell they both insist that you get the most recent post/s, when I only want to send newsletter-style emails as and when the need arises.

    Cheers,
    Gary

Thanks, I'll look into those (although it looks like the second and third links are the same plugin).

I haven't used MailPress yet but I really thought it allows you to send whatever you want, not the most-recent-post only. It was on my list of plugins to consider for doing what you asked.

Please post again if you find a good solution.

Will do - hopefully over this weekend, though I do seem to be having some other issues to now that I've upgraded to 2.7 (fatal errors all over the place, but only in the back-end).

If MailPress does what I want, they're not doing a good job of advertising it!

    An update, as requested...

I couldn't get MailPress to install at all, which might be something wrong elsewhere on my site. I say this because, when I install the g-lock-doo-dah plugin, it caused the idTabs script (see http://www.sunsean.com/idTabs/) to stop working. I need the idTabs script more than I need to fuss around getting the newsletter plugin to work.

That said, I had two problems with g-lock on a clean install (see http://wordpress.org/support/topic/228591), so I'm none the wiser, though the bits I've seen would appear to what I'm after.

Don't try the Shiftthis plugin the owner doesn't reply to email and all the documentation and forum has been down for months.
Why pay for something that has been abandoned for so long!

I got mailpress working on some of my sites. The 2.7 version is available on the owner's website.
When you get a fatal error just disable and re-enable the plugin until the error goes away. I don't know what causes the error.
The mailpress owner actively responds in their google groups forum. Start a thread there with your question and you should get a reply the next day.

I don't know anything about the other plugin mentioned.

Mailpress will send most recent posts, but you can write your own newsletter messages and send those out.

I don't know if it will let you ONLY send special message and disable recent posts. Ask in Mailpress's google group. Perhaps you can write a quick plugin for it.
