Newbie Using Default Theme based on Kubrick (8 posts)

I have a couple of things I would like to change about the default theme.

    I'm on WordPress 2.0...

    Firstly,
is it possible to switch off "justification" for Posts/Pages... You can get quite large spaces between words which can look unsightly like the first post here:

    Secondly
If find sometimes the side-bar is large font say on the welcome page

    http://www.rtfm-ed.co.uk/

    but elsewhere it is smaller:

    http://www.rtfm-ed.co.uk/?page_id=2

I would like this to be consistently smaller - but don't know how to change that...

    Thirdly...
The body area is quite narrow... sometime it isn't wide enough to hold long links - which are then forced to wrap... also if I embed large graphics to the page this can upset the layout...

It seems the solution is to widen the page or make the entire site display larger than 800x600....

I've created a sample page to illustrate my issue:

    http://www.rtfm-ed.co.uk/?page_id=78

    Any help greatly appreciated

    Kind Regards
    Mike

Only thing I can really tell you about kubrick (other than it's a right bitch to deal with, which is why I don't....) - it's all based on graphics. In order to change the background, the width, the header, etc. you have to make new graphics.

I'd suggest you take a look at http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Themes/Theme_List, there's a lot of nifty themes out there, most of them easier to customize than kubrick. There's a great theme viewer at http://themes.wordpress.net, in fact there's one called RTFM.... There are over 400 themes for wp, now. Bound to be one you like....

Mike_Laverick: I cannot see that your links takes me to a WordPress site. I don't see the justification problem nor any sign of a sidebar. Did you skip the blog?

On the first issue of "justify"

Open your .css file in a text editor and search for the word "justify". Change it to left (or right).

I think for your other linkage problem, if it is going to be your choice to make a whole long sentence like that a link, you will have to deal with the design issues that ensue, and you might have to use a wider template. Why not just refer to the title and then follow with link?

example: Rori's Damn Opinion is worth One Dollar (link) and just put the link in the "link" word?

The sidebar font being wonky from page to page... I am not sure... again, I am sure that is an issue in the CSS, I cannot tell how you have your pages set up to know what is breaking the code from one page to another.

Large images will also always break a narrow design, unless the design in ALL css, no images.

    Myabe this plugin
    http://fredfred.net/skriker/index.php/iimage-browser

where you can put a thumbnail to link to open a larger image would meet your needs?

    Hope that helps.

I LOVE Kubrick. But then again, I do not really try to change it a lot. :)

Rori, kubrick's fine. Unless you want to tweak it. Same situation as buying a Compaq....

    Hi there... which CSS file...?

Will this change just change the headings?
