   I usually write from scratch using html and css but I want to try something a bit more advanced and have been pointed towards WordPress to avoid re-inventing the wheel. Here's what I would like:

   A big list of products each with a picture (or two or more), some text and a few keywords. From the home page you can search for a set of products (by keyword or group) and have that presented as a list. Selecting an item from the list brings up the detailed data. This will purely be an information site, no need for e-commerce but it will look a bit like a store website

   Firstly is this possible/easy, if so where do I start? A template? Any pointers?

   That's pretty much how wordpress works....

   You just need to find a theme you like with the layout you like.

   And read up on the basics to understand how to do the rest (categories, tags, images, etc)
