    Hello,

I'm new to WordPress. I need a blog to host information about a our church's first ever charity event to raise money for breast cancer research. Our chuch uses a wordpress website now http://www.rslcs.org - with a link to an astore amazon bookstore. We want this new blog to be as independent & separate as possible - church's IT person is swamped with other stuff & has minimal time to spend on this project.

I'm looking for a guidance about how to set this up. We free (or super cheap) online event registration plug in? We will collect registration info & fees from participants - so it needs to be secure. I'm hoping to use church's existing amazon webstore/merchant account to do that.

Not sure if this is a good idea or even possible..but I was thinking of setting up a new product on amazon, adding it to our amazon store, and selling it on both the new blog and church's main site.

I searched the forums & the web (overwhelming!). I started by setting up a blog on wordpress.COM http://march4thecure.wordpress.com/, but that was the wrong approach.

I could really use some guidance here. Has anyone done anything similar? All suggestions & recommendations are welcome!

    Thanks for your time!

    Jack

    See http://codex.wordpress.org/New_To_WordPress_-_Where_to_Start

Register march4thecure.com and set up a self-hosts WordPress site.

Look for registration and e-commerce plugins: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/

Easy way is to setup a subsite and install a copy of wordpress on that. http://www.march4thecure.rslcs.org. This should be easy for you it guy if he is using a hosting solution with Cpanel or other site configuration tool.

Once the subsite is created and the wordpress is installed. Choose a theme you like, many free ones to use. Then use the Events Registration plugin. Setup a paypal account for you 501c3 and your set to take donations, cost about 0.35 per transaction and is very secure and is integrated into the events registration plugin.

    Thanks.
