• Hi all, I am confused as to the purpose of wordpress. It says on the site that it is a blogging and publishing tool, but then intimates that it also designs a website. Which is it?

For example, I have an existing website that I designed in a free web designer at yola.com. If I use WordPress, will it overwrite my existing website with a new wordpress one, OR, will wordpress add functionality to my existing website?

    Thanks in advance

  • What they mean by that is that you can use WordPress to power just your blog, or your whole website.

If you install WordPress, it isn’t going to affect or interact with what you have from yola.com in any way. Is that site hosted with them or on your own webhost?

The two approachs you could take would be to make just a blog with WordPress. If your site is shazzm.com, you could install the blog at blog.shazzm.com or shazzm.com/blog. You could run that separately from your current site and link them together.

This option would be a great way to learn more about WordPress without messing up what you have going on already.

Your other option would be to replace your current site completely with WordPress and use if for your blog posts and pages. The advantage here is that all your content is in one place to be managed, and the whole site has the same design, but it is a lot more to do and learn at once.
