• Hi all,

I’m very new to this and would appreciate any help. I have a web site that was hosted by somebody but I have had to move to new hosting at Bluehost. I have pointed the domain to Bluehost and installed wordpress. I was told to simply install a zip version of the htdocs folder containing all my web site, settings and content etc. However when I do this I keep getting one of the error messages below.

Are you sure you want to do this?
    “Please try again.”

or this one has been displayed once

    “Unpacking the package…
    Installing the theme…
The package could not be installed. The theme is missing the style.css stylesheet.
    Theme install failed”

  • If the old site was a WordPress one, then you need to review Moving_WordPress.

Thanks, have had a quick read and it seems a little complicated for me

Then I’m afraid you may need to consider paying someone to carry out the site move for you. Either Bluehost(if they offer that service) or via http://jobs.wordpress.net/ It’s a lot more complex than simply installing a zip version of the htdocs folder on your new hosts. You also have to move your database.

I need help getting the home page from theme options to appear as my home page. right now my blog page is showing as my home page. i deactivated this them (responsive) and activated it again hoping that would work, but it doesn’t. help please

Hi, just realized this may not be the correct thing to do. I’m not moving wordpress. The wordpress account that was associated with my web page has been closed and the hosting terminated. The guy who created my site has now sent me the files to upload and get it all running again. So I chose hosting with bluehost, pointed domain, installed wordpress to bluehost. I then logged into my new account with wordpress to upload the file and this is where I am having problems. I have been successful to install the original web site theme, (without any content etc) just to see if it is working and yes this works. When I try to upload the htdocs with my theme, content and settings (my site as I knew it) it does not work. Any ideas?

Did your old hosts send you a database backup file?

Hi, thanks for your help. I just looked in the files I received and there is nothing with that name in it. I’ve got two main folders config and public, both have numerous other folders.

Are there any .sql or .gz files?

    Hi
I done a search of the complete folder and all that came up was
    tiny_mce

I’m sorry but it looks like all of the content from your old site has been lost. 🙁
