• Created and new install of wp for testing on my win xp pro sp2 machine. im using the WAMP currently i tried a few other things first like xamp and such but still had no luck but im not sure what the problem is. Everything seems to work fine on the host machine but if you got to another computer on the network and try to view the site all you can see is plain html text, no style sheets or pictures come up at all. Now because it works on the host just fine why would it not work on the rest of the network ??? im sure that im missing something but this is driving me nuts! I must know why its not working so any thoughts are welcome please help me workout this mystery . . .

    thanks Cal

  • Did you use ‘localhost’ as the site url? Every computer defines itself as localhost.

    Hi jonascale,

I had the same issue as you.

Here’s what i did to fix it :

    1) I re-downloaded the wordpress (i think the current version is 2.8.6) directly onto my local server

    2) I re-copied and pasted the CSS folder in the wp-admin folder to the current installation already on the local server

    3) Voila. Problem solved.

Don;t ask me why the previous version didnt have a CSS folder, could have been a network problem.

To verify that this indeed is your problem, go to the install.php (or the page you’re stuck at without css) and do the following :

    1) Right-click > view page properties
    2) You should see that the css style sheet being called belongs to a file that is not present (/wp-admin/css/wp-admin.css or something similar)

    Hope this helps

    Happy blogging
