I could get Amen working... as long as I was logged in as administrator but not as a visitor. As being new to WP could you give me a direct example how you would use or write the shortcode in the text widget. Does it all go within one set of brackets[]? I get the [Amen] but anything else just prints on the page. Are the short codes you give to have something written between the "" like in your given short code... type="" ([manage] I have searched for articles that explains it simply for a newby but cannot find any article helping as they all seem to think you already have an understanding.

[amen] make sure to match case.
    This lists the prayers.
[amen type="manage"] make sure to match case.
This lets you manage the prayers.
    Hope this helps.

I have done that. "could you give me a direct example how you would use or write the shortcode in the text widget. Does it all go within one set of brackets[]?" In other words what does your short code look like EXACTLY. please

Shortcodes do not naturally work in text widgets. They are designed for the content of posts. You can install the plugin Shortcode in Sidebar Widgets to make them function.

During an earlier release of the Amen plugin, i tried to include a dedicated widget, but it was buggy and has been removed for the moment.

Try installing the above plugin and see if the shortcode works.

The plugin works great... AS LONG AS I AM SIGNED IN AS ADMIN in both the side bar and on a page but doesnt show the new request form. It will also show all request that I post as admin to anyone. SSrry

Does the request form not show even when using the shortcode of [amen type="manage"]? You should be able to set posts to be private, thus, only logged in members can see them. If you provide a link, I could check things out.

it is not the viewing of the requests, it is the viewing of the request form that cannot be seen thechurchofhardknocks.com Both the page and a text box that IS right below the "the prayer site" logo is there when I am in admin but as soon as I am logged out the request form is gone. I will put a request on so you can see where it is. That's why I have asked for an exact picture of what the shortcode should look like, although NO ONE has ever addressed that. kingcodefish has gotten the closest but they put all the other words there too.
currently my shortcode looks like this
    [amen]
    [amen type="manage"]

I have also deleted original and tried extracting and reinstalling

    Yes, that shortcode is correct:

    [amen]
    [amen type="manage"]

The first shortcode will list requests. The second will list the submission form, along with all requests that can be managed by the current user or public user.

One other thing to check ... have you enable public prayer requests on the settings page? From the admin area, visit 'Settings' > 'Amen Settings' and ensure 'Allow public visitors to post requests' is ticked. This is disabled by default.

If that has not yet been checked, it should do the trick.
