• Hello, new to WP here and searched the forums but could not find a solution that matched. I have been following Lynda.com tutorials just fine, downloaded the recommended plugins and now when I ‘view’ a post or page I receive the following message.

    Forbidden
You don’t have permission to access / on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Note: I have since deleted all of my plugins but the problem persists
Note: WP was installed under /here as in tokerschoice.com/here.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    What “recommended plugins”?

Try resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    Thank you for replying!

My tutorial videos recommended downloading Jetpack, Akismet, All in One SEO, WPtouch, wp=Typography, Contact Form 7, Fast Secure Contact Form, Easy FancyBox, WP-PageNavi, and Yet Another Related Post Plugin.

I do not have a problem logging into my admin… I simply go to tokerschoice.com/here and then scroll down to log into my admin. When I create a page or post, then click ‘view’, that is when I see the error.

Deactivate all of those plugins. And if you’re not currently using the default 2012 theme, switch to it now.

I would suggest taking any WordPress tutorials at Lynda.com with a very large pinch of salt.

Thank you for the response. I actually deleted them all and the default is set to the 2012 theme. I can log into the admin no problem. I can also create a post or a page but when I click view or even preview, I receive the same error. Strange. Here’s the error message again:

    Forbidden
You don’t have permission to access / on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

What is in your root .htaccess file?.

I can’t seem to find it. I’m not too far into the site development at all. Maybe I should re-install and start fresh? Your awesome, thanks for helping.

Have you checked that your FTP client is configured to show all files? .htaccess files are often hidden by default.

I tried that and decided, since I’m a beginner, why not just uninstall and re-install to practice a WordPress installation again. Well I did just that, followed the 5 minute install, then received an error message stating WordPress has already been installed and to delete logs. I try but access is denied – even when I run FileZilla as an administrator. Hmmm…

Are you installing WordPress manually or using a 1-click installer?

    I used the 1 click install …

Then you may need to contact your hosts about it. The 1-click installer may need resetting.
