• I’ve just created a new website with several static pages and a blog page.

I’ve just received two new users – one registered as a contributor, the other as a subscriber. Both email addresses look suspicious (not real names) – should I be concerned?

My settings are: anyone can register, default is subscriber. I’m less worried about the subscriber registration today, but the contributor one surprised me: how has this happened if I haven’t authorised it?

I’m using Thesis 2.1 theme and a few plugins but none relating to registration.

    Any comments/suggestions would be welcome.
    Thanks,
    John

  • Firstly I’d suggest you check your site with a security scanner

    http://sitecheck.sucuri.net/scanner/

That’ll give you some confidence that you’ve not been hacked.

Yes I’d be concerned that someone can access at a higher level than I’d set.

By allowing automatic registration, you do open yourself up to spammers, but of course that is just a choice for you.
