[resolved] New site on 2.6.3 - Should I request 2.7.1? (6 posts)

    Hi all,
I'm having a new website built and it's just in the testing stages. It is designed on version 2.6.3.

I've asked the designer about whether to upgrade to 2.7.1 and he says he doesn't think it's necessary.

I just wondered whether there have been any major changes since 2.6.3, in particular security issues that have been fixed? If so, I will need to insist that it is upgraded but if not I could live with the older version.

Many thanks for any light you can shed on this for me.

    Cheers

    John ;-)

It's always good to be at the more current version. Here's what offers: Version 2.7

Note, that once you are at version 2.7, you will be able to automatically upgrade.

Thanks for your information. I didn't see anything "security wise" that has been improved just looking through that documentation. It seemed more like there were extra features added.

Have there been security improvements too (as far as you know)?

Thank you again for your help

    Cheers

2.7 and 2.7.1 had security fixes.

Recommendation: Bite the bullet and upgrade.

Upgrade to 2.7.1. 2.7 has a completely different administration interface. Better to learn with the current interface than have to relearn everything later. Also, there have been significant performance improvements. In 2.7 you can install plugins right from the admin interface, and in 2.8 you'll be able to do the same with themes, and the new widgets management will be in place. Widgets in 2.6 have caused lots of people serious headaches. Also, everything takes longer to do in 2.6 because you have to load multiple screens to get to the functions you need, compared to 2.7 where most screens are accessible right from the dashboard. There is no good reason to put up a site now using anything older than 2.7.
