WP-DBManager
[resolved] New server, same domain, reinstalled wp, backup not restoring! (backup file ok) (4 posts)

I recently switched a domain between servers, and had to reinstall WP. The domain and directory are exactly the same as they were, the files are now on a new server. I installed wp-dbmanager, which is the plugin I used to backup the database on the old server. It backed up successfully in a .sql file.

When I try to upload it again via database > manage backup db, then selecting the backup file and clicking restore, it says it restores successfully, ("Database On 'xxx' Restored Successfully") but my WordPress is still empty.

    I do not understand.

Open the SQL file with a text editor, does the content looks alright to you?

    You can try this http://codex.wordpress.org/Restoring_Your_Database_From_Backup

Thanks for getting back to me, Lester Chan, the problem seemed to resolve itself.

I restarted the process, but this time did not install wordpress again through the dreamhost panel (I didn't mention this before, but it's what I did), and it worked.

I used wp-dbmanager to restore the backups. The files were the same as the first time I tried. To be honest, I don't understand why it didn't work the first time, when I installed wp through the host, but I'm glad it worked the second time.
