New Search on this site -- Its bad. (6 posts)

I must say that the new search system implemented is not nearly as functional as the last. Example, I can no longer tell the age of the post from the results -- this is a major clue as to the relevancy of that post to what I'm searching for. For instance, search for 'install error' shows results that aren't appropriate to the version we now work with, and these results are first.

Another weird one, try searching for the word 'search'. Yeah, whats that about?

Matt is still working to improve the search, and if you check over at his site you can see he wants to perfect it:

Thanks for the tip about 'search' - I've passed that on.

Just tried searching for search, very weird!

Gotta agree with ya that the new search function is not quite so useful as the old one.

Cool. I honestly tried to find out if people where talking about the search thing, but I couldn't find anything because the search results weren't very good. No pun intended.

FYI the old search still works, you just need to call the right url:

http://wordpress.org/support/search.php?q=(search phrase goes here) -- no brackets.

Example: a search for spam karma would be:

    http://wordpress.org/support/search.php?q=spam+karma

    cheers.

It's not perfect but I think it's got a lot of improvements. Much better than wp search with google, and IMO a lil better than the ancient searching system.
