Can you verify with your host that your server supports [1] .htaccess and [2] mod_rewrite? Both these are necessary for custom permalinks (not filtered through index.php) to work.

Yup my host is supporting it. I have other blogs working fine with this permalink structure, but this is my first go around with WP 2.0.

Was the htaccess file supposed to be change when I chnaged the permalink structure? In 2.0 it didnt ask me to or give me the code to add. Where can I find it?

Sorry. I'd love to hep you out on this but WP 2.0 is quite beyond me.

Maybe Podz or Kafkaesqui or any of the other mods can help you out.

I am having the same problem except that I am using one of the predefined "Date and name based" permalink. So, whether I try to goto posts/pages/categories/archives it will always give me a "The page cannot be found" error.

Nevermind. Sorry, I foudn my error. The .htaccess was not writable. I didn't scroll down far enough to see the error.

@incrediblehelp, So make sure that your .htaccess is CHMODed at least 666.

Yes the host has the rights protected on the htaccess file which is not allowing WP 2.0 to make the change to the htaccess file.

Isnt there a way to manual write to the htaccess file? if so what is the code/mod rewrite.

OK so if I get access to the htaccess file cant I manually add the code? If so where can I find the code within 2.0? Does WP have to write to the htaccess file itself?
