New post notification email is listing snippet of post twice (12 posts)

Hello all, when readers of my blog sign up to receive notifications of new posts on my blog, they receive a "new post notification email," which includes the name of the new post, and a short snippet of the contents of the blog post.

All of this is fine, however the email contains the "snippet" twice, once at the very top of the email before anything else, and then again in the middle of the email.

More details of the problem: If you look at these emails, you'll see that the main background color of the email is grey, with a white square in the middle of the grey background. The white square is what has all of the information listed, such as the name of the post, the post snippet, the link to read more, etc. However, the part that seems like an error to me is that the snippet is also listed at the very top of the email like I mentioned, and this snippet is located in the grey background and is in tiny font. Nothing else in the email is listed in the grey background, as all of it is in the white box.

My question is, is this correct, since it seems like an error to me. There's no reason to have the snippet listed twice.

If anyone can help please let me know, thanks so much!

Could you post screenshots of these emails here, so I can better understand the issue?

You can use a service like http://snag.gy/ to share the screenshots.

It would also be useful if you could let me know your site URL so I can try to subscribe, and see how the notification emails look next time you post.

    Sure thing!

The screenshot of the post is here: http://snag.gy/c5poN.jpg

    My blog is here: http://lifebyjohn.com/blog

You can just go to any of the posts and make a comment and then subscribe to future posts, and then let me know and I'd be happy to then go in and make another post so that you'll be notified.

    Thanks so much!

I just commented and subscribed to comments and to your site.

Could you try posting a new blog entry, so I can see how the notification emails look like on my end?

    Thanks!

Everything seems to be displayed properly on my end:

I wonder if the problem could be caused by your email client. Could you try to open the subscription emails in a different mail client, or let me know what email client you use, so I can try to reproduce?

    Hi Jeremy,

That's a great point. So I tested it in Gmail and Hotmail/Live and it worked fine. What I was using before was Microsoft Outlook for Windows, so that must be what is creating the error.

Can you try subscribing to my posts again, this time with a Hotmail/Live account and then I'll go ahead and make a new post and we'll take another look?

    Thanks!

I meant to say, Can you try subscribing to my posts again, this time with an email account that you can read via Microsoft Outlook for Windows. Thanks!

    Hi John,

Jeremy asked me to help out since I'm on a Windows machine. I don't typically use Outlook, but do have a copy of Outlook 2010. I've subscribed to your blog.

Could you make another post, whenever it is convenient to you, and I can see if I can duplicate the issue?

    Thanks!

Actually, John. You can disregard that. I received another blog's notification and see what you're seeing.

It appears Outlook isn't respecting styling rules that ask for that snippet to be hidden. I'll report the details to Jeremy so he can take it from there.

    Thanks Brandon!

John, the issue seems to be specific to Outlook as we suspected. I've let our developers know about the issue so that we can look into it in more detail.

I will get back to you when we can address this issue.
