Gravatar Signup makes it really easy for your commenters to sign up for a Gravatar. All they have to do is check a box, fill in a desired password, and when they submit their comment to your site, they'll be signed up for Gravatar.

With WordPress 1.5's default templates, it requires NO hacking of the comment form. Just drop it in and activate!

To see it in action, as well as download it:

Brilliant! The site I help run has a wide variety of commenters, quite a few of them kids, and I have been keeping my eyes open for an easy way to let our users know what a Gravatar is (without having something that annoys people who already have a Gravatar!).

This was by far the easiest plugin I've installed, nice job! It's unobtrusive, yet visible, and ultra easy to customize the text.

Thanks for the kind words, Franzilla. I like your wording of the checkbox: "Sign me up for a free Gravatar so I can have an icon next to my name too!"

I might have to borrow that. ;-)

markjaquith Could this be placed anywhere, or specifically only in the comments area? I'm just wondering for a multi author site if it would be better to place it in its own box on the main page somewhere, perhaps in a sidebar

Fine, markjaquith, but if people start pestering you about being redundant don't come crying to me :P

Wouldn't just a link to Gravatar be easier if you are placing it in the sidebar?

The only other thing I am going add is a link to our page of Gravatars we made for our members to use.

Jinsan, with some modification, this could be placed anywhere. You could just make your own "get a gravatar" signup form and have it POST to the current page. As long as there are values for "get_gravatar", "gravatar_password", and "email" (not needed if the viewer is a WP user and is signed in on your site and has an e-mail in their profile), it'll work. It doesn't rely on anything specific to comments... just looks for those POST values.

Very cool plugin. People may, however, have issue with supplying their password in via a 3rd party site.

Well if they trust the site they'll use it, if they don't they won't.
