For one of my sites (http://beer-roll.sytes.net), I thought it would be cool to have random (beer-related) quotes show up. So, I wrote plugin to do just that.

    DonkieQuote 0.2

I tired to integrate it as completely as possible with WordPress and the admin panel. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

BTW: Congrats to the wp team. 1.5 is very slick, indeed!

And I imagine that it could display other quotes besides beer ones, right?

Use it for anything other than beer quotes? Uhm... Never thought about that! It might just work! ;)

In your instructions you give SQL code to use to make a table. I am SQL challenged. Exactly what am I supposed to do with that code? You say the default name of this table is wp-quotes, but is there an extension you're supposed to use? Where are you supposed to put this table once it's created? As you can see, that part of the instructions has left me scratching my head.

    Grace,
Are you familiar with phpMyAdmin? It puts a user-interface on top of your database and gives you tools to directly manage your database. You could use phpMyAdmin to run the SQL commands from the plugin instructions.

If you are not familiar with this, then I suggest you do some more research into it or ask for some help. While phpMyAdmin is a great tool, you are messing directly with the database, and you can mess things up quite a bit.

    Grace,
You can also try the Witty plugin which displays random quotes from a text file, editable from the plugin page. You just have to replace the sophomoric quotes with your own. No SQL no hassles. I use it for my site - http://blog.taragana.com.

How do you create a table and fields in mysql. I have access to Phpmyadmin.

The Donkiequote require one table and the following.
    CREATE TABLE 'wp_quotes'
    (quote_id int(11) unsigned NOT NULL auto_increment,
    quote_author int(4) NOT NULL default '0',
    quote_text text NOT NULL,
    quote_src varchar(150) default NULL,
    quote_src_url varchar(255) default NULL,
    quote_added datetime NOT NULL default '0000-00-00 00:00:00',
    PRIMARY KEY (quote_id),
    KEY quote_author (quote_author)
    ) TYPE=MyISAM AUTO_INCREMENT=1 ;

Just copy the above SQL statement and insert in the Phpmyadmin and click go. The statement will create a table for you.
