Installed WordPress 2.7.1 on brand new site

    1. Using Default Theme

    2. Right Sidebar had default Page, Archive, Category, Blogroll, Meta all working normally.

    3. Admin Dashboard displays Widgets menu in Left sidebar
Can not add any widget in the right sidebar without losing all the default items present. Can not move or reorder anything in the right sidebar.

Notes: Host server shows no plugins listed in the wp-content plugin directory. Had to remove the Meta stuff from the right sidebar manually by editing php file.

What I really need to do is:
Reorder the default Page, Archive, Category in the right sidebar
Add Recent Posts and Calendar of Events to right sidebar

This Forum shows *many* similar posts from users with no real solution.
Is it even possible that the next update to 2.7.1 will correct problem?

Sorry folks, this problem was definetly operator error! This was my first install of version 2.7.1 When I tried add the first item using the widget menu I was alarmed when I saw all of my existing sidebar items disappear from my blog page. I backed off and removed that widget not trusting the widget add operation. Finally after much frustration I decided to add all of the widget items I wanted at once, and clicked the update button. All items then appeared in the right sidebar on my blog, and I was able to go back re-order the items with the widget. Sometimes it's the simple stuff that throws me <Grin

Wait- I think I'm having a similar problem.

You mentioned that you couldn't rearrange the widgets: I can't either. I'm running 2.7.1 also, and while I can add and remove widgets, the drag and drop feature doesn't work for me. The cursor changes, but I can't drag and drop, it's incredibly frustrating!

What did you do to fix that aspect of your problem?

I think I may have fixed this INCREDIBLY FRUSTRATING problem! It must have been a javascript thing...I just enabled all javascripts in my browser (though none had anything to do with shifting data, it was things like replacing text in status bar, etc), and now it's working apparently!

Just thought I'd post the solution in case anyone else was suffering from the same problem =)
