New Images Not Showing in Posts (21 posts)

I am suddenly having a problem adding new images to either new or old posts. I wanted to add a "signature" image at the bottom of each of my posts, but it won't show up. I can see it when I am editing the post, but I can't see it in the preview or if I publish the post. I'm using a linked image. I've tried linking different images and I've tried creating an entirely new post with any image and nothing is showing up. You can see the little missing image icon at the bottom of this post just before the phrase "You May Also Like":

I've seen some old posts about images not showing up, but they are a few years old and don't seem to have any answers for me. Can anyone help me with this? Thank you in advance! :)

Is this a wordpress.com site or a self-hosted WordPress install?

    It's a self-hosted install.

So why are you linking to resources on wp.com?

I'm not linking to resources on wp.com. I'm trying to link to photos from my photo hosting site. All my images are links to my photo hosting site.

    Because Gail65 uses Jetpack plugin.

The img source that is not working :

Yes, I am using the JetPack plugin. I'm not sure how that relates to my image problem, though. :(

But that wouldn't explain an image url like http://i1.wp.com/dappledthings.smugmug.com/photos/i-VcJLhsk/0/S/i-VcJLhsk-S.png

How exactly are you adding these images to your posts?

I go to "Edit Post", click on the "Add Media" button, and then select "Insert from URL". Then I put in this link:

Yes, but the issue is not on the gail65's WordPress site.

See the error message below when you click on this ressource :

Yes - I've seen the error message, thanks.

@Gail65: Try again but this time make sure that the url field is empty before you add the image's url.

    Yes, that's it.

I just disabled the JetPack plugin's Photon option and the image is showing up on my site now. Apparently, the Photon option isn't working properly. It was automatically installed when I updated JetPack. It lets you host your images on the WordPress.com site, apparently. Why isn't it working, I wonder?

No, I didn't clear the url field. :( How would that help? It was empty when I put it in there in the first place.

@riversatile: There's nothing wrong with the image's url as posted above. It worked just fine on one of my local dev sites, so it's not an anti-hotlinking issue. It's just that the image url (as generated on the site) is being mangled by something.

Yes Esmi, I saw that and updated my answer.

I guess it was, but that is odd that Photon isn't working properly.

I just read several posts about Photon causing problems and apparently the plugin creator is working on an update as of a month ago. I'll just leave it disabled for now. I didn't even know it was on or what it was doing. I have just come back to my blog from a somewhat long hiatus. I updated everything about am month ago, but I haven't written any new posts so I didn't notice a problem until I tried to add the "signature" image today. Thank you both for helping me troubleshoot this! :)
