   HI everyone. I've been using wordpress for a few months now and have been very happy with it. I backl up my site and my sql databases weekly. a week ago friday my hosting service suddenly went under. I found a new hosting service a few days later and restored all of my files to the new host's servers. the host restored the sql databases for me. every since then when I connect , or try to, I get an error mesage stating that "wordpress cannot establish a connection to the database"

   I think this is a password issue, but I cannot figure out how to check what the password is set to. the config file seems to hve an excrypted password in it.

   two more pieces of information. 1. I do not understand php at all, so any replies would be appreciated in plain english and not in "techie" talk. 2. the original database was named jerzbear.wpb1 <i think>, whil ethe new databases were named jerzb.wph1. The name of the original database was changed to reflect the new naming structure.

   Any ideas? I'd appreciate any light people can shed on this. As I said, I believe it's a passowrd problem, but do not know how to check what the currect pasword is, or how to change the config file to reflec the correct password, as its encrypted.

   I suggest you go into your administration panel, set a new password for the user and then change it in the wp-config.php.

   if you can't reset the pass, delete the user and recreate it, changing the correct values as needed.

   P.S. make sure you have the hostname set correctly (most likely should be localhost)

   Do you have cpanel / vdeck / plesk / ensim ?
   If so, there are some guides here to help:

   Try making another user and adding that user to your current database with a new password, then change your config file.

   Who is your host ?

   I'm confused. I did the delete user.recreate user in c panel, but as I said in the original post, the password in the config file seems to be encrypted. I have no idea how to hange that there
