  • well even thought FF won’t be around forever, it’s nice to know the community is still behind releasing new version even with IE 7 looming.

Lol, IE 7…. Thanks, I needed a good laugh tonight.

True, but it will happen and seeingas about 95% of people use it, it will still be number one. The aim of FF, according to the founder, was to force MS to rethink the way it creates browsers – MS have taken a lot of solid features from FF and used it in IE, and yes, it will support standards (alpha transparency is one thing, finally). He’s even said those hoping that the foundation will be around forever are misguided in their belief; FF was never meant to replace IE, simply to be a wake up call for MS and it seems to have worked. Whether FF will continue in four or five years time, I dunno, I hope it does.

But, will IE7 still be tightly integrated with Windows?

that’s what everyone wants to know 🙂 Let’s not even get started on Longhorn eh?

Oh and apparently it will only work with WinXP with SP2 and nothing else so far. No mention, as far as I know, of a Win2k compatible release, mac release or compatible release for users not using Sp2. I’ve made the changes necessary to keep my computer secure with the need for bloated patches from MS, so I gues I get penalised.

There will be no Mac release. MS made a firm note that Mac IE had been discontinued and will never be picked up again. The Mac community cheered with joy.

IE7 + CSS standards is NOT going to happen apparently, so for us here, we will have to support yet another piece of Redmond junk.
    Or not.

    Firefox 4 life!

There’s no way I’d ever go back to IE.

Even if MS made IE *exactly* like firefox, mimicking it in every way, I think people would still choose FF over IE.

I really like the Netscape 8.0, it has a really nice default skin, and now if only it would allow the addons like FF it could really advance. I hated all prevoius versions of Netscape.

Firefox seems to be crashing more and more on me lately, It naver crashed on me with 0.8 and 0.9 but I have the newest and updated version that crashes more than usual.

I am inclined to suggest that posts that contain “I can’t get my site to work in IE” should be referred to IE support forums. We shouldn’t help Microsoft by making everything work on their crappy browsers. As long as we use all of the hacks and workarounds, they are let off of the hook. Why should they create a better browser when site owners fix IE’s problems for them?

well even thought FF won’t be around forever

Right…it will continue to evolve and get better.

    NM – I completely agree.

I have to agree with dawg: FF crashes… (even if I like it 🙂

NM I agree. No hacks please. We ‘re British 🙂
