New design - new problems (9 posts)

    Hi,
    Site: http://www.os42.com
    I have been playing with a new design and most of it has worked out . A few little problems are driving me crazy though and wondered if anyone could offer any suggestions.
    1. The bottom of the main content has a gap between the credit and the content and I do not understand why.
    2. When you go to the actual post and look at comments you can see that the nunbers for the comments and the wording 'The URI to TrackBack...' is too far over to the left. Any ideas how I make them move to the right?
    3. Everything looks ok in 1024x768 in FF but a bit dodgy in 800x600. However, in IE it looks a mess in both resolutions. A part of me thinks, just leave it, but I would still like to fix it if I can. The menu is pushing down the images and the right hand side of the content background is hidden.
    If anyone has any suggestions it would be much appreciated. Thanks :)

  2. I'm seeing quite a few errors in the CSS validation. That's probably where the problem lies. Run your URL through http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/ , you'll see what to fix.

  3. Shadow, I'm still seeing quite a few errors, is -moz-border-radius causing them all? http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/validator?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.os42.com%2Fwp-style%2Fwhitey%2Fstyle.css&usermedium=all

    Yes macmanx. Take out -moz-border-radius and I get the all clear. I am not sure how to solve the other issues I mentioned in my original post....
    Thanks for trying :)

  5. When you mention that removing moz-border-radius didn't make a difference, did you clear your browser's cache, quit, and relaunch it before checking back? If so, you might want to try it again. Looking at those CSS errors, I think they may be the cause.

    Ok, commented out all the moz and it still doesn't work in IE. Validates ok so not sure of the next step to take now...

    There's an extra pair of paragraph tags just before the menu div (div ends, the empty paragraph, another div ends, menu div begins) maybe that causes the gap before the footer (credit)?
    As for the comment problem (stuff too much on the left). What if you moved the "The URI..." and "No comments yet" part inside the class "talk" div?
    Hope this helps :)

    @Minna
    Thanks - I took out the p tags that were sitting around this:
    <?php // _e('Sorry, no posts matched your criteria.'); ?>
    and that seems to have fixed the extra break on the index page as you suggested. It is still showing the break on the actual post page though. Not sure why that is?
    And moved the talk div up to include the uri and no comments and yes it works :) Seems obvious once I looked at it. Doh!
    Thanks for your help Minna - it is very much appreciated :)

    I registered :) (hopefully still logged in)
    Well, I'm baffled... could it be the paddings (credit and whatever's the div that holds the content)? At least there's a 5 pixel padding all around credit. Or do paddings cause that sort of a gap...
    Too bad I don't have my FireFox web developer extension available (I'm at work... don't tell anyone! Let's say I'm on lunch break... *sips coffee*) I could see where the divs go...
    Oh well, maybe I should concentrate on my ontology for a change...
    I hope the gap gets shrunk away. Good luck :D
