[resolved] Network sites not showing (5 posts)

I cannot get new sites created under the Network Admin screen to show - if I try to access any I just get a 404 error. Further, on the dashboard it tells me "You have 1 site and 1 user" even though I have 4 sites and 3 users.

Is this a problem with redirecting? Or are there any folders that need to have read&write permission which I may not have set (blogs.dir has the correct permissions as does wp-content overall)? What else can I check to troubleshoot? Thanks!

If WordPress is telling you otherwise, what makes you think this?

I suggest first trying to establish whether the sites and users haven't been created, or if they have and are just inaccessible.

Can you look and see if the database tables have been created for the blogs? There should be a set for each blog, with names starting wp_<blog ID>_.

The blogs are virtual. They do not exist on the server. Blogs.dir only holds uploaded media files, it does not house the blogs.

The blogs live in the database. If they are not there, they will not be anywhere. Blogs also work on htaccess rules. if the server does not read the file, then you have no blogs.

If you are using IIS than you need to install an IIS extension called URL rewrite and use web.config file instead of the .htaccess file. If you want web.confgi rules, than tell me. I will post it for you.

Thanks all! It turned out that there was an error in my .htaccess file and the blogs were not being created in the database (even though they showed up under the Sites tab of my network admin page). Everything's working now, hooray.
