    Hi there,

Yes, the dreaded ‘I have a network and want to have posts on the main page’ question.

I am all too aware that questions like mine have been asked before, on an almost monthly basis, but I couldn’t find a solution on these forums or on the rest of the internet.

So here goes: I have a small network of sites that discuss a variety of topics, at least some of which relate to neuroscience. Since the network is aiming to provide neuroscience related information, the main site is entirely dedicated to neuroscience. What I would like to have is a ‘page’ on the main site (say, ‘Cognitive Neuroscience’) that people can visit and see a ‘feed’ of sorts, where all the posts in the network in the category (or tagged with) ‘Cognitive Neuroscience’ is displayed. Ideally it will have the featured image and an extract. When they click on it, they are taken to the specific blog to read the post.

In essence then, I’d like the bloggers to discuss whatever they want (politics, films, etc) on their blogs, and I will pull the few topics I want (Cognitive Neuroscience, Psychology, etc) and these will be accessible through pages on the main site (not on the home page, not in a side bar).

    Too much to ask?

    Thanks so much!

Nope. Not too much. You want the Sitewide Tags Plugin (weird name, I know). It will pull in ALL the posts from ALL your sites, and then you can sort ’em as you want. Yes, it’ll work.

So… did you see all the recommendations for the sitewide tags plugin? 😉

Send all the posts to a tags blog, not the main blog. Set up your pages on the main blog and pull the category feeds from the tags blog to those pages.

Thanks for getting back to me.

I sure did see them (loads of them) but for some reason I couldn’t figure out how I’d go from the tags blog -> tag specific feed in a static page on the main site.

I ended up looking at things like Diamond MultiSite, RRS Mix, SimplePie etc but obviously got stuck.

I’ll set up the tags blog!

(Perhaps the extreme multifunctionality of that plugin should be better described on its FAQ page or something?)

Sorry to be such a fool, but how do I get a feed filtered for a specific tag from the tag-blog?

(Having serious issues with the plugin not pulling featured images either, trying to rename files in the loop to fix it…)

Sorry, found the custom feeds. *blush*

What would be the best way to pull it into the page on the main site?

feedwordpress is one but it’s been janky lately (i think).

Will it allow me to have this feed:
    http://www.neuroblogs.com/tags/tag/neuroscience/feed/

    Displayed on this page:
    http://www.neuroblogs.com/neuroscience/

Or will it actually move the posts to the main blog? Everything I look at seems to actually make a ‘copy’ of the post on the main page, rather than just linking too it.

(those sites still need some work, lol)

feedwordpress does move a copy, yes. but it has an option to retain the original link.

if you look in the plugin repo, there’s plenty to display the feeds as well.

Mmmm. I’d have to go through some pretty ugly hacks to try and get this done with Feedwordpress. The developer even has a FAQ where they claim it can only be done that way.

I tried ti get it done with a php exec plugin, with an RRS reader and simple code…

Damn. It seems that what I’m asking is too much.

If anyone finds a plugin or a way to do this please post it!

    The answer: Hungry FEED plugin.

Just need to work at the formatting.

Thanks for trying to help though!
