    Hello,

I currently run 7 sites, possibly more in the future. All are currently set up with their own domain names for each.

Should I keep doing what I’m doing, or should I look into combining these into a multisite? I am fairly familiar with wordpress, having used it for a few years, but the instructions for setting up a network of sites looks confusing to me. Maybe its because its 4am and I’m tired. Any advice anyone?

    Things to consider:

    1) Will you ever want to move the sites from the multisite out into their own hosting?
    2) Do you have email setup for these domains?
    3) Who uses the sites?

I can’t imagine wanting to move them out on their own. They are all sites owned by me, or my kids. No email set up. Is email a consideration?

This stuff seems way more confusing than what I am doing now, but then again, I don’t want to have to keep 7 or more installs always up-to-date. Really my main motivation for this is to not have to worry about keeping them all updated.

Using Multisite, you can up-date every site on one install at the same time, and its easier to manage each site from one dashboard instead on logging into each site one by one. I was just like you. I was running 10 different installs of WordPress and it was hard to maintain each one, until I moved to a Multisite install and I can manage everything from one dashboard. I own a video game publishing company called Illusionstar.

    Other things to consider:

    1. Will each site share users?
    2. *Will each site have its own admin?
Multisite has one Super Admin and allows that person to designate admins for each of the other sites.

    Thanks for more info.

    Really here are the sites:

    • One main site that I don’t really use anymore for my reseller hosting info.
    • My personal blog
    • My blog for me and my new wife
    • One blog for my wife and I focused on our weight loss
    • One for this recipe website I’ve always thought about but never started
    • My son’s blog
    • My daughter’s blog

They are all administered by me. Really, for all of the sites, there will be four users.

I tried setting this up the other night but I couldn’t get it to work.

Here are some links that should help you achieve a Multisite install without losing information.

I’m going to give it one more shot. I started a couple days ago with a brand new install, and I thought I followed the directions exactly, but then when I tried to log in, it wouldn’t let me log in anymore. Gave me some sort of message that I can’t remember.

Alrighty, give it one more shot. If it doesn’t work for you, I’ll be glad to walk you through it step by step – from single install to Multisite install, and domain-mapping.
