http://demo.daniks.co.uk redirects to daniks.co.uk when I go to it, so it LOOKS like you didn’t set up wildcard domains correctly. The problem isn’t WordPress, it’s how you set up the domains. Fix that and WP will work.
That’s what I thought – however i have just finished redoing all the dns and the a new install of wordpress and the error is the same – the domain http://demo.daniks.co.uk resolves corretly yet still there is the network error in wordpress.
I have done exactly the same on another domain and that one works. Hence I am at a loss…
Hey! Now it works! 😀
Though that you’re saying you redid the DNS makes me wonder, since normally DNS is set for wildcards (if I had to edit my DNS settings for every subdomain, I’d be pissed). When you created the wildcard SUBDOMAIN itself, on your server, how did you do it?
I have one entry in my vhosts section of my httpd.conf for it.
As it was not working and I had already done it on another domain – I figured I had got it wrong somewhere so I deleted everything for daniks.co.uk reset the DNS to standard and started again.
In Cpanel I created a DNS entry for *.daniks.co.uk to resolve to the correct IP. Then I added a subdoman *.daniks.co.uk.
Then I installed multisite according to the wordpress codex instructions. yet the update part does not update.
I did exaclty the same on other domain hosted on same server and that one worked ok
Of note – No two accounts on a server are created equal. Seriously. They should be, but they never are :/
In Cpanel I created a DNS entry for *.daniks.co.uk to resolve to the correct IP.
Okay, that should be fine.
Then I added a subdoman *.daniks.co.uk.
Where did you point this to? /public_html/ correct?
However when I select SuperAdmin update network i get the following error:
Warning! Problem updating http://demo.daniks.co.uk. Your server may not be able to connect to sites running on it. Error message: Couldn’t resolve host ‘demo.daniks.co.uk’
Why are you hitting “update network” on a new install?
You only click this after you upgrade. that’s it. Otherwise leave it alone.
to ensure it works – dont really want to have a multisite running then find that part of it does not work.
It;s a warning at best. It showing up does not mean the site doesn’t work, as obviously it does. It’s displaying the message becasue you;re alreayd upgraded and up to date.
Again, just hitting that button doesn’t help. your subsites work.
ok thanks for the help folks 🙂
