Need to turn off email notifications for new posts (11 posts)

    I'm not sure how my WP account is set-up, since someone else did it for me. I am using 3.3.1 (which I plan to update a.s.a.p.). I couldn't find any plug-in associated with the notifications (unless I am missing something), so if you could let me know all the possibilities I should consider that would be most helpful.

    Thanks for your time.

    Hi,

    If you can't find the plugin, maybe try to have a look into theme files - typically functions.php if there isn't something what's sending notifications when the new post is published.

    Go to OPTIONS >> DISCUSSION , there you will find it.

    Admastar1, I think this will disable just the notifications related to new comments, not to new posts.

    Thanks, but I went there just now and looked at all the options and none seemed to have anything to do with email notifications to subscribers. I need to control the emails sent when I create new posts.

    Any other ideas that might help?
    Just to confirm where I looked:
    Settings>Discussion Settings.

    Note, I didn't see any "Options" only "Settings"

    Any other ideas to adjust the new post email notifications to subscribers? I'm holding back on posting a new piece because I want to fix the settings prior to publishing.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,

    Did you try to follow my initial advice and looked into functions.php?

    Cheers

    Yes, I went into the themes tab and didn't see anything called functions.php. And, it wasn't intuitive at all as to where the meat of the themes is. Please advise where to dig deeper here and I will try.

    Thanks a bunch.

    Hi,

    functions.php is theme file. You don't find it anywhere in admin.

    However there's a possibility to view the content of theme files straight from admin. Please head to 'Appearance' -> 'Editor' On the right hand side, you should be seeing the list of theme files. One of them is likely going to be called functions.php Please try to click that file and view the content. Even if you don't understand the PHP, you should be able to see lines of code which are responsible for mailing once the new post is published.

    Thanks, I found the functions.php file but it doesn't have a word about any notifications. I assume I could hunt down the code to put in and it would affect something but I will first need to know what is currently controlling the email notifications. And, if I could just find it, maybe there would be options suitable for my needs without adding code to functions.php? What's your opinion, please?

    Here is the code in functions.php:

    <?php
    /* This is the main function.php override file - it controls most of the stuff happening with the theme */

    /* Anything you need to actively do, put here. This is the first code that will get run whenever the
      child theme is activated and used. This example just re-defines a function, but you could do anything.
    */

    function weaver_continue_reading_link() {
        /* very simple example - override the read more text... */

        $msg = '[CLICK TO READ MORE]';
        return ' <a class="more-link" href="'. get_permalink() . '">' . $msg . '</a>';
    }

    ?>
