Hi , I have been asked to take over and archive a blog of a very good friend of 28 years who quite suddenly passed away of cancer just before Christmas. His wife is not computer literate and the password used has died with him. If someone that can assist could contact me I would be grateful to know how to proceed/provide details as the Blog is of interest to certain libraries and we don't want to lose it/see it hacked.
    regards

So sorry to hear about that situation and your loss. Can you post a link to the site in question? We can get information from there that may help in gaining access for you.

You should contact the domain registrar, and the domain hosting service to access those accounts. There is no easy way to hack into your friends site. You will need to follow legal procedures and do this right. Once you have legal access to the server and domain accounts, hire a WordPress developer to lock and secure the site.

For obvious reasons I would rather not post the site details here. Actually as a Certified Ethical Hacker I could go other ways, and am quite competent enough to secure the site afterward , the problem is initially I have no access to the PC he used, his wife does not speak English although I speak and read her language , so not a problem, it is 6000 miles away around the world which is a problem, and in the guy's direct social circle no one is competent around a computer, even to switching it on. So I am stuck.

Unfortunately, WordPress doesn't have any control at all over access to self-hosted WP.ORG sites. So as noted above, you'd need to contact whoever hosts the site. If the site is hosted on WordPress.COM - that's separate from these forums -- you'd need to contact them:
