I need to delete posts in bulk (1000+) and aml okking for a suggestion as to how to accomplish this in a reasonable manner.

Well if you don't like the Post->Edit bulk delete process then might look at http://sudarmuthu.com/blog/2009/02/02/bulk-delete-posts-in-wordpress.html
Please backup your database (or do Tools->Export) before attempting!!!
