Need to make site completely private

    I am building a site on a subdomain for my brother. It is a story development site. He wants the entire thing password protected, including the home page. We are going to create the users for those who would need access to the site.

    How do I put a “lock” on the site from the outside? I’d be happy with just making the home page the login page.

    Hi,

    On this topic, I agree with this article about content visibility http://codex.wordpress.org/Content_Visibility. In short, unfortunately it is not currently a native feature of WordPress to hide the entire blog with a password login page.

    So I think for now the solution will have to be some sort of workaround like a plugin or some other non-native addition/implementation.

    For example at the bottom of this article there is a paragraph with the heading: “Hiding The Entire WordPress Blog”, in which the author makes suggestions for some workarounds.
