• Hello all!

I have a site with WordPress 2.7 installed, and I somehow managed to exceed my bandwidth so needless to say, I cannot log into wp-admin, cpanel, myPHP, etc. Therefore I need to backup my mySQL database over FTP since I have no other access to it. Is this even possible? Thanks in advance.

  • Contact your web host and consider paying the fee for increased bandwidth (at least for 1 month).

You can not take the backup from FTP, you can take it from the phpmyadmin section. Or you can consult your host..

That’s what I was afraid of. I am using one of those no-name hosts that I bought from ebay, and they have zero support. I guess I will have to wait it out and hopefully the monthly bandwidth resets soon. Thanks for the input guys

My advice would be to get your data off there and get onto a new host asap.

I did. i went with Godaddy unlimited hosting, and i am desperatly trying to get my data and databases back, but I’m stuck for now. Argggh, someone needs to come up with a way to backup the myPHP DB via FTP, or a 3rd party app that can connect to the database without using WordPress or PHPAdmin. Thanks again for the support……

There’s many, many applications that can connect to your database directly, if they have it set up to allow external connections (many don’t). You can even just use the mysql command line client to connect to it.

All you need is the database server name, your name, and password. All of which are in your wp-config.php file.
