I am going to convert our club web site, currently maintained with FrontPage 2000, to WordPress. I am using a strictly temporary site (theme is TwentyTen and plugins are Askimet, Page Restrict and Peter’s Login Redirect) to learn about WP.

The question: Our member list is 93 rows by 12 columns and is currently maintained from an Excel 2003 spreadsheet. In light of the fact that, over time, the club web site will be maintained by a variety of people, generally with modest tech capability, what is the best way to incorporate this member list in WP?

    1. Being able to move the information from the current Excel master directly into a WP page would be a real plus.
    2. That being said, maintaining the member list directly in WP without further use of the separate Excel spreadsheet would be helpful.
    3. We need the ability to link member names to member mug shots.

Any ideas, expressed in simple terms, would be sincerely appreciated.

I have a site with similar requirements (except the mug shots). I use the CIMY User Extra Fields plugin to maintain the user data on the profile pages.

This does require some special coding for the Membership List page, but I would be glad to help with that. Please use the Contact Me page at http://wordpress.mcdspot.com/contact-me/ if you would like to pursue this.

Thanks again, Mac, for the incredible job you did helping me with, not only the Member List, but with the entire site conversion. It looks great and will look even better when I implement some of your folowup suggestions.

Hello StarDust – I have exactly your problem – I have just converted our club website from frontpage to wordpress http://cycleseahaven.org.uk

We used to be able to open the membership spreadsheet online and save changes back so it made an easy way of keeping a single copy of a shared resource.

Of course being on Linux doesn’t have the same connectivity with microsoft apps so we can’t save back.

How did you solve this problem?

    Cheers

    Ian

    Hi Ian,

As noted above, vtxyzzy (Mac) jumped in and did an excellent job of getting my site conversion going. I suggest contacting him.

    Regards,
    David
