Basic Guidance for Design of a Membership restricted (WP) site for Advertising

    Any advice would be most appreciated. I am a neophyte at WordPress, yet not at programming in general. I am looking to design a semi-simple site (WordPress 3.9.1 from ground up) that will allow Membership enrollment and user restricted areas for ad placement, etc. Ideally, I would love to know of any present “live” sites that accomplish any similar type of objective that are utilizing OIO Publisher (or an alternative) plugin/addon in conjunction with the plugin, Paid Memberships Pro–which looks marvelous I must add! Is this objective too lofty? Or not so uncommon? Any pointers, confirmations, or direction is highly prized. The site’s primary focus will be membership enrollment with fee, for advertising purposes. I need a way to structure the site based upon type of ad (ie, category – fast food, flooring, cosmetics), and have member areas for particular member ad self-purchase and self-placement–if possible. Moreover, ideally there would be a way to filter by member or ad type or via advertiser’s business address. Feel free to redirect me if I am way off. I will eat humble pie and prize the criticism. Also, which themes might be best for this kind of objective? Wooo, that was a mouthful. Hopefully someone can assist me.

    Hey Brandon,

    Unfortunately we haven’t really had anyone do this kind of a thing exactly before with PMPro – generally only controlling the display of ads based on membership. However, it should definitely be possible with PMPro depending on what you want to do exactly.

    You could do something simple with the Register Helper addon, like possibly add a textarea for a user’s ad code on their profile (and any other fields like ad category, etc), then display it on your site somehow (register helper fields are stored in user meta).

    If you want to take it further, you could do something similar to the User Pages addon and give each user their own post to add their ad code instead, maybe even do it as a custom post type.

    Anyway, just throwing around some ideas so maybe that’ll help 🙂 Very interested to see what you come up with!
