I am trying to help someone that moved their hosting of a WordPress site.

They loaded the files on a Windows server & there were errors. I asked the hosting to switch it to a Linux server & it installed fine. But had just the one demo post and the default template.

I logged into the admin & could see the custom template but when I tried to switch to it I got a fatal error.

I managed to load the database successfully from a backup he sent me.

I now see the correct links in the front end but they are all broken, there is no css. I guess the file paths are all incorrect. I see no login anymore in hte front end.

Can anyone tell me what I need to change to correct the file paths?

I am not familiar with WordPress I use the other CMS that start with a "J" but I would like to use WordPRess if I could get this installation up & running.

Thanks for any advice anyone can give me.

I forgot to post the url

    http://www.beyer-racing.com/www.beyer-racing.com/web/content/

Don't ask me why they buried the files in that file path or why they named a directory http://www.beyer-racing.com

    Hey,

Well, you've got some work to do...

Here are some plugins that will help:

    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/velvet-blues-update-urls/
    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/search-and-replace/

I would suggest fixing the architecture first.

If you're going to use WP to run the whole site, install it in the domain root http://www.beyer-racing.com/

An alternative to the plugins is to do it manually:

I suggest making a copy of the sql backup. Then, edit the back up sql to do a global search and replace:
    replace: http://www.beyer-racing.com/www.beyer-racing.com/web/content/
    with: http://www.beyer-racing.com/

You will have to replace whatever upload path they had with wp-content/uploads/ etc.

Always work off of your copy of a backup, not the actual backup itself!

    musnake,

Makes perfect sense! Let me move the files to the root directory first. I'll post my progress....Thanks!

    musnake,

Apparently it already has a SEO url plugin.

All I did was move all the files to the root directory & BINGO, the site was up & running!

Thank you musnake. I'm not sure why I didn't think of trying that, I guess I was too intimidated by my lack of WordPress experience to experiment.

I think the rest will be a piece of cake now.

Thank you again for taking the time to look at the problem, have a Great Day!

    Well,

Only the Home page works right now. I will work on the links/urls & post again.

    Thanks.

    musnake? Are you still around?

I have been nosing around in the admin of the site
    http://www.beyer-racing.com

The Home page works great! None of the links to any of hte other pages work. I'm not exactly sure how urls work in WordPress. I have opened the page titled Beyer Racing Team & I see
    "Permalink: http://www.beyer-racing.com/team/"

But when I click on the Team button on the navigation & it goes to http://www.beyer-racing.com/team I get a Page Not Found error. Is the navigation bar in the template? Do I have to edit the template to get the navigation buttons on the front end to work?

I changed the permalinks Custom Structure /%postname%/

Thanks musnake for the point on the right direction!
