I used to have an earlier version. I never blogged with it but it was installed by wordpress volunteer about 3 years ago. I completely forgot passwords and everything. I wanted to completely delete the previous WP and reinstall the new one. It's been so hard because of the older version.
I erased all the WP files and uploaded the new version files. I THINK I correctly configured the WP_config.php file.
When I tried to run the wp-admin/install.php file there were some database issues. It told me to erase previous database files. So I went into phpMyAdmin (using linux plan on my own server) and deleted the old WP database.
Created new database...checked wp_config.php and updated those variables.
Tried again to run wp-admin/install.php
Got this error message:
Error establishing a database connection
This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can't contact the database server at mysql9.hostexcellence.com. This could mean your host's database server is down.
1) Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
2) Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
3) Are you sure that the database server is running?
I'm pretty sure about 1 & 2, although I might be wrong. I'm not sure about 3. It's my first time to try to use a mysql data base.
Any kind soul wish to assist? Much appreciated or should I go to my webhost for help? manager@e-sensei.us
