Hi guys. Okay finally I have started a website and everything was fine until I realized that the site takes like 6-10 seconds to load up. Pretty bad and I seriously need help. Basically me and my friends had just started a 1-cent company and therefore, budget is seriously tight. We tried to get assistance from the hosting company and this was the reply from them which made me really puzzled!

While analyzing your account I can see that the scripts under the account need an optimization in this case.

*The total size of external your scripts is 83326 bytes, which is over 20K. Consider optimizing your JavaScript for size, combining them. You can substitute CSS menus for JavaScript-based menus to minimize or even eliminate the use of JavaScript.

*The total size of this page is 478591 bytes, which will load in 110.78 seconds on a 56Kbps modem. Consider reducing total page size to less than 100K to achieve sub 20 second response times on 56K connections. Pages over 100K exceed most attention thresholds at 56Kbps, even with feedback.

*The total number of images on this page is 70 , consider reducing this to a more reasonable number. Recommend combining, replacing, and optimizing your graphics. Replace graphic rollover menus with CSS rollover menus to speed display and minimize HTTP requests. Consider using CSS sprites to help consolidate decorative images. Use CSS techniques such as colored backgrounds, borders, or spacing instead of graphic techniques to reduce HTTP requests. Replace graphic text headers with CSS text headers to further reduce HTTP requests. Finally, consider optimizing parallel downloads by using different hostnames to reduce object overhead.

First of all, me and my partners are just moderate when it comes to IT. Therefore, this sounds very complicated. Secondly, we are tight in fund and therefore, unable to get a developer in for help.

In this case, can you please advise me on how and where to start? I don’t mind spending a lot of time but I am willing to learn!

Hope to get reply and sorry for the lengthy post.

    Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    Hi esmi!

Thank you for your reply. Appreciate on that.

Now, after deactivating all plugins and did 3 tests with slowest is 6 (twice) seconds and fastest is 4 seconds.

I know for a normal blog, 3-5 seconds is okay. But I am running a crowdfunding website. What is the ideal speed usually? 4 seconds?

    Sorry for the many questions!

    Did you switch themes?

    Hi esmi

Sorry for the late reply. It was way past midnight that time. Okay I managed to solved it (not sure if it is solved completely though) by:

    1. Deactived all plugins. Speed reduced (good sign)
    2. Reinstate one by one of the plugins starting with W3TC (speed improve)

Currently, managed to hit 6 seconds and YSlow showing a low A with score of 88/100.

The biggest issue from my test was actually JetPack which seems to slow down the site for some weird reasons. Enable Jetpack will drop Yslow score of 88 or 90 to mere 50+.

Hope I can give more feedback soon!

As for the theme, I am only running one theme as it is an ecommerce website.

Every WordPress site only uses one theme at a time., Nevertheless, you should try switching to 2012 to check if the theme is causing performance problems. If it is, you can take this up with the theme’s developer directly.

    Hi esmi,

Thanks for that. Will try as I just migrated servers. Hopefully all the bad thing will go away soon 🙁

    Appreciate that!

    *solved temporary*
