Need Help Restoring after upgrading plugins caused problem

I just did a bunch of upgrades to plugins, one of which AdRotate, now the widget is not displaying, data in the widget has disappeared.
I have a backup of the database and the WP files. Do I restore both the files and the database? I think so because I need to back out to the older version of the plugin and restore the data that was in the sidebar widget for AdRotate.
Can someone verify that this is what I need to do and the steps to take to restore? Do I need to just import the data from the backup database or drop and then add?
