  • here’s my site… http://www.hornyoyster.com

If anyone has the time to walk me thru changing a few things on site, I’d be grateful. Keep in mind I have NO web design experience. I don;t know PHP, HTML, etc. But I do know how to edit things in wordpad (if told exactly what to do!!)

    1) I want to remove the META section completely from sidebar

    2) I want to shorten the width of post boxes. Say 40% less.
    3) I would like to insert blank space to the right of posts for future ads. In other words, i want to insert a blank sidebar on the right of page.
    4) I need a larger space on top to insert my logo. (in between the Start/about/advertise buttons and the top of page)
    5) I want to replace the button that read START with the word HOME.

    Thats about it for now.

    Thx!!!!

Oh one more thing…. I want to remove the stuff written on nottome of page. “is powered by WordPress. Site feed……etc etc”

    1. Save all your theme files to a safe place on your computer
    2. Make a copy of these files
    3. Download html-kit from chami.com
    4. Open the copies of the theme files and try to make the edits yourself

You’ll find it’s not too hard, and because you have a backup copy of your theme files, you can experiment to your heart’s content and not have to worry about breaking anything.

Are you saying that we can convert WordPress theme pages to html for editing? I’m struggling with getting technorati tags and statcounter codes to work but if I were working with html rather than php I know I’d be ok.

I’ve installed WordPress on my server with the intention of learning how to use it and can do most things but can’t get either of those tags working.

You can edit WordPress theme files just like any other files, you don’t need to convert them to HTML. Just avoid the PHP, and edit the HTML around the PHP tags. PHP tags look like : <?php /* all the PHP goes in here */ ?>

Actually, Notepad++ might be a better editor if you’re beginning. It’s a lot prettier and less scary looking.

The good thing about either HTML-Kit or Notepad++ is that they highlight the code with different colours, making it easier to see which is which.

I tried that Maerk, but there’s a message below the edit screen that seems to indicate it’s not editable. It says:

If this file were writable you could edit it.

There isn’t a save button or anything to click on to save any changes I make so when I do add it in, it just reverts back to what was there before when I go back to the screen.

Meant to say I’m experienced with Dreamweaver and know how to do edits in html successfully – the main challenge is just getting an edit saved and working in my WordPress templates.

I found a way to edit the files – I have cpanel and was able to access the files in the file manager and then edit them. If you have setup cashbagg, you’d be able to do the same.
