Need help making a transparent page! (5 posts)

    I posted this in the Themes section of the forums, but got to thinking it might be more appropriate here.

    Hello!
    I would like to make the main body of my pages slightly transparent so that the background image shows through.

    Here is my site: http://www.connorengstrom.com

    I have found several solutions, but I could not get them to work. From what I understand, to maximize browser compatibility, I have saved another version of my background image (the cement looking picture) as a .PNG with about 10% opacity. Then I should use this as the text's background. (So it's not really a transparent page, it just looks like one I guess)

    I have very limited knowledge in programming so please explain in detail any changes I might need to make in the style.CSS.

    I tried using this:

    #page {
    	background: url("http://connorengstrom.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/website-background-transparent.png") repeat scroll 0 0;
    }

    and this

    #container {
    background: url(http://connorengstrom.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/website-background-transparent.png) repeat scroll 0 0;
    }

    but I didn't really know where to put them or if I was using them correctly. I just put them under the "Global" section of the style.CSS because I assumed that would make it apply to all of my pages. Neither of these appeared to have any effect.

    If someone could guide me through this step by step I'd be very grateful! Thanks!

    Add

    #page {
    background-color: none !important;
    }

    at very bottom of stylesheet.

    Note you are using the dark style option in theme options - it's css is dark.css

    Make sure you refresh your browser and clear any sever cache.

    That didn't do anything. :( And I don't see a page (or "template" as it's called on the right side of the "Edit Themes" page) anywhere titled "dark.css"

    I should also add, I don't want the stuff behind the text to be completely transparent--I just want a little of the background image to show through.

    Please create a Child Theme for this and then follow this tutorial

    Your edits to the Twenty Eleven theme will be lost without a Child Theme on a theme update.

    Thank you! I will look into trying that as soon as I can--I have to upload 15 min of youtube videos, which unfortunately will take all of my slow internet until morning...
