Normally you would post affiliate code into a text widget.
I think I tried this. Not sure it worked. Also, I just upgraded to version 3.4.1.
Also, I am confused as to where to put the text widget? header, footer, secondary footer area. I have those options, but Im confused
Just depends on your theme. In the widgets area of the dashboard you can drag the text widget to whatever widget area shows up as determined by the theme.
Kmessinger is right, you would use a text widget and paste the html into there. If you want it on a page paste the code in html view, same applies to a post. You want to post just a link which should be easy if/when you start posting images, at times you will be to re-size the image to fit properly in your sidebar or other areas.

Along this same line, when I go to my dashboard home, I have 3 affiliate banner codes I can enter which go into my side board. The theme also allows me to change the page style so that I can ad a secondary sidebar as well and I can drag widgets to the sidebar and the blank boxes for these widgets show up. The problem is that I don’t seem to see any provision for entering code for the secondary widgets on the dashboard home page. Either I have missed something or I have misunderstood how the “Lifestyle Child Theme” is set up. Any suggestions? I just want to put affiliate links in the three widgets in the secondary sidebar.
