    Hi,

I have an existing website hosted at GoDaddy, but I've grown so frustrated with them that i decided to come here and set it up. This is my first try at WordPress and I'm finding it to be a little more daunting than I thought it would be.

I signed up for hosting at DreamHost then came here and started following the setup instructions but have found myself at a standstill because I'm not sure where to go. I downloaded the WP software to my PC, I have a database at DH with a MySQL user. I think I'm at the point where I need to upload the wp-config.php file, I edited the file in Notepad++, but step 5 of the 5-minute Install has me stumped. I'm just not sure exactly how to go about doing it and I'm hoping someone here can help me with it.

    Thanks,
    Troy

You need to upload all the WordPress files to DreamHost's servers. You can do that with an FTP client like filezilla.

Dreamhost has a one-click installer for you, lewruf, if you'd rather use that :) Nothing wrong with it either :D

Here's our info on FTP: http://wiki.dreamhost.com/FTP

For one click just visit https://panel.dreamhost.com/?tree=goodies.installer and chose WordPress.

OK Mike. I used the one-click installer and I got a message that it was installed at my site. Yesterday I set up a mirror site at mysite.dreamhosters.com because my site is currently hosted at GoDaddy and I thought I would re-create it here at WP and once it was done I would then transfer the domain to DH. I guess my question is what should my next steps be? I didn't see an option to use the one-click installer on my mirror site, do I need to install the files there too?

Thanks for your help here and on the DH forum.

Are you using the same domain name at Dreamhost that you have at Go Daddy

Or do have some other domain name.

I used the one-click installer and I got a message that it was installed at my site.

    It should be /home/username/domain.com

If you want to provide your domain, I can take a look for you.

    Dear lewruf,

Check http://goo.gl/hJjyz for installing wordpress and setting it up on dreamhost.

Moreover, You just need to login into your domain control panel and set the name servers to

    ns1.dreamhost.com
    ns2.dreamhost.com

This way your domain will be redirected to your webhosting account.

    Regards.

    Everything's in /home/username/newenglandseminars.com :)

Your dreamhosters site wasn't working because you had the wrong password for your SQL ID. I fixed that for you and it should be fine now :D

OK, so now I'm able to go to http://www.newenglandseminars.dreamhosters.com/wp-admin/ and start to build my site. When I'm finished and happy with how it looks then I can ask about moving it from the mirror site to the real site and moving the domain from GoDaddy.

    Thank you

OK, I'm happy with my site now and I need to start the process of moving my hosting from GoDaddy to DH. My site is live at http://www.newenglandseminars.dreamhosters.com, so I need to know what my next steps should be to:

    1) Set up hosting at DH
    2) Move my site from the mirror site to http://www.newenglandseminars.com
    3) Anything else that I'm sure I'm missing...

Thank you in advance for your help, it has been huge so far.

I assume that you have two separate installs one on Dreamhost and one
Go Daddy under the domain name http://www.newenglandseminars.com

    You have http://www.newenglandseminars.dreamhosters.com
at dreamhost and by look of the url you have subdomain name

Do you want this site to be on Domain name if so will need to know where exactly is wordpress installed on Dreamhost.

You will need to change name servers at Go daddy so it points to dream host.

Ones you done that may be @Mika can help you on setting up domain name DNS

You can try contact Host support see if they can help.

    Thanks govpatel.

    Yes, two separate installs.

Yes, I set up that mirror site so I could build my new WP site and then move it to the http://www.newenglandseminars.com domain once I had transferred the hosting.

Not sure how to answer where it is installed on DH.

Do I need to change my WP site from the dreamhosters.com mirror site before I change the name servers at GoDaddy?

    Thanks

OK, I changed the nameservers at GoDaddy to ns1.dreamhost.com and ns2.dreamhost.com.

What should my next step be?

You will have to wait for domain name to propagate and then redirect your mirror site to the domain name check with dream host support as they may help you on the process.

Thank you. One more question, how will I know when the domain has been propogated?

OK, never mind that last question, I just checked and my domain is now already pointing to my new WP site!
