I am trying to convert this site to WP. I'd like to make the 'Resources' section of the homepage editable as well as the intro text above it. The resources area headings researchers, educators, and students are pages. Is there a way to have 2 editable areas on the homepage (the intro content above the resources and the resources area) so that the client can link to different pages w/ out having to hard code anything? So the sections titled researchers, educators and students can have their headings, images and text changed without it be hardcoded in?
I thought of custom post types but these are 3 small sections with intro text that can link to different pages and are not posts. Is there a widget that could do this?

The Option Tree plugin could be used to add text area theme options that could be pulled in by the templates.

I have used this approach for an office site that wanted to post a 'message of the day' and vary their hours of operation.
