[resolved] need a plugin for travel map or route (17 posts)

I have tried googling and searching the wp plugin DB but I can't find a proper plugin for displaying a route on a map. I don't care if it is Google Maps or some other provider.

All that comes close to what I need was a plugin called gouel, which is extremely beta, the umapper plugin where you have to actually draw the route manually between two way-points and there are also some integration problems with the plugin, then I found blogabond.com nice interface, but again one uses their external interface and not straight the map provider's. last find was nomadsconnected.com which had trouble signing me in via the FB connector so I had to do it old-fashioned. This last one uses an external API too so your data comes via Google Maps through them to your blog. And all it can do is draw straight lines from one way-point to another :-(

Isn't there a simple plugin where one can have a route plotted automatically? If not automatically then manually but without using any other API or interface than wordpress, a plugin, Google maps via my API key?

There is no plugin that I presently know of that can do this, which is why it is a planned feature for gPress - http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/gpress/ - but cannot yet confirm a date that it will be added, but can confirm it is in the roadmap and on the books...

Thanks for the support and encouragement...

PressBuddies Twitter account is best for both gPress and GeoPress - http://pressbuddies.com - BuddyPress forums are best for support - http://buddypress.org/community/groups/gpress/forum/

GeoPress is an external stand-alone system I am working on that uses BackPress - http://geopress.my

curios about this gpress: does it require buddypress?

I am only needing these features for a single user wordpress isntallation :-( (currently)

No, gPress only requires WP 3.0+ - everything else is optional...

Have been away from the development for a while, but am on my way back and will be releasing some much needed updates soon! :-)

oh, btw. I like it that your plugin offers me the option to turn off jquery. a lot of other plugins don't so it gets loaded 3-4 times and breaks functionality :-(

Also posted a couple of problems I encountered in the BP support group for your plugin and here is another one:

I am not satisfied at all with the current places solution. why not give users more custom control of this custom post type? Or give them an option of creating it outside your plugin and connect it with the features your plugin offers?

I just found a plugin that may be the one for you http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/travelmap/ this is simple but do what it say.

thx, very nice of you but I had already discovered it and suggested some features to the plugin author: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/plugin-travelmap-some-feature-suggestions?replies=6 which he implemented (i.e. multiple travelmaps)

BUt to be honest I am currently playing with this way more advanced script that implements Google Earth KML maps into wordpress (not a plugin needs manual hacking): http://www.justin-klein.com/projects/projectjkmlmap

We just launched, and are working on getting it listed, however if you have an external wordpress blog you can install it now.

    http://www.scribblemaps.com/wordpressplugin/scribblemaps-embed.zip

You can create a map with ScribbleMaps.com, and on save you will see a MapID just use that mapID with the plugin, alternatively you can just specify a KML URL. Hopefully we get it listed soon.

not sure what exactly the plugin does but will give it a try after trying scribblemaps.com awesome. been tinkering for weeks to get a map done in Google Earth.

will decide later if I'll use the plugin or the other script I linked above to display the maps but for creation its an awesome tool!

oh the plugin's menu should be called something meaningful instead of: Kimili Flash Embed :-)

The "What is This" link by: Publish Method doesn't work for me. neither does the one by alternate content. the other two work.
