Need a good Photo Gallery (14 posts)

    I would like to set up a photo gallery.

    1) I would like to display a series of albums on one page (like an index file).

    2) The thumbnails (that can span across several pages) would appear on a second page.

    3) An image viewer for larger versions of the photo would open on a third page with previous and next buttons included.

    4) The most inmportant thing is, I would like the albums, thumbnail, and photos to appear "inside" my wordpress layout (using WP 1.5 Jan-14-05) and not on some external html page.

    Can't use Gallery 1.4.4 because my sever does not support imagemagick so I didn't bother to see if it can be integrated or not.

    I tried coppermine, spent days on it, but I can't get it integrated into WordPress. Coppermine is probably overkill anyways.

    Most people are using a gallery of some sort. Does anyone know of a good program or plugin that can easily be intergrated with 1.5 and has the features that I listed above ?

    ( I have over 800 photos now and that will grow into the thousands over future years.

    Thanks

    Not exactly part of WordPress, but I use EUWDPCpix (http://www.editkid.com/EUWDPCpix/), it's quite a funky piece of work, it can read any EXIF info from images and comes with it's own admin system where you can make all sorts of changes, just upload it to your images root and it'll read the sub folders

    It's easily modifiable and can easily be integrated into WordPress, here is an example http://photos.scamcity.us/

    Try this

    http://www.relativelyabsolute.com/spg

    It will do everything and it is easy to integrate into 1.5

    I have just downloaded EUWDPCpix from http://www.editkid.com/EUWDPCpix/as mentioned by gregorsmith. Its very simple to use (well once I got a spot of help from the developer).

    So for newbies like me, I can recommend this simple elegant solution.

    @bpmp69: (and exposure)

    Yes, exactly like that - the original idea came from here I think: http://www.scottdot.org, with what I've been able to find out.

    The only problem with SPG is, you cannot spread your thumbnails across several pages, say 30 thumbnails - 3 columns x 2 rows spread over 5 pages - other than that, it looks like it may be a last resort option.

    @gregorsmith and xinxin:

    I'll check out the program you suggested and let you know

    Thanks

    By the way, for those code people out there:
    Is there a way to add code to my site to make SPG spread its thumbnails across several pages ??

    ok, I checked out EUWDPCpix - it appears that you cannot spread the thumbs over several page either with that program.

    ps - the photos at scamcity slide under the sidebar in Firefox and slide down the page in IE - the layout there needs to be tweaked a bit.

    Firefox 1.0

    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0

    @ khaled:
    There's nothing in this post that is advocating using IE - you probably have your posts mixed up and intended on answering a post elsewhere.

    I use Firefox as a browser, and then I use IE , Opera, and Netscape to test code compatability

    reconsider Coppermine...

    I'm sure there are many more using Coppermine and WordPress with matching layouts...

    also CoppermineFetch is a php script you can use to display your Coppermine images outside of coppermine...

    I've been working on a new GalleryManager plugin for WordPress for sometime now. The url is

    http://blogs.hiveworks.com/msa/downloads/gallery-manager/

    It's still in beta (not for long) but it's worth a look.
