   Im thinking of using a wordpress blog for my website.

   I want to use it to display special offer, a picture gallery, and articles.

   How would you set it up to show this data? would you use posts or pages etc.

   There are dozens of ways to achieve this friend. Yes you could use psosts and pages but for featured offers, barring using a theme that offers the feature which allow 'daily deals' set-up..Bannersnack.com has an EASY TO USE Ad set-up module that works wonders for Flash or Image ads. Set them up in a sidebar or posts and pages..just depends on your lay-out.

   At the most basic level you would probably want to use a post for the special offer with something like a featured post plugin, if the gallery is going to be static instead of something like a gallery of the week / month etc., you'll probably want to set that one up as a page with something like the Next Gen Gallery and for articles I'd suggest posts as it will be straight forward to then have archives of your articles.
